Go Pro Hero 7 vs DJI Osmo Action: Specifications and comparison | Will DJI fail in Action camera line as Go Pro failed in Drone?

Go Pro has been the leader in action cameras for a long time now. Launched in 2002, the company gained its name in 2011 after the release of its HERO series. Since then, and with the emergence of YouTube and video content, and more people pulling towards Vlogging and broadcasting adventure videos, the camera has been the go-to option for the enthusiasts all over the world. But in October 2016, Go Pro did what every ambitious company wants to do, and that is to expand their product line. So, Go Pro entered the drone game with the launch of their Quadcopter drone, Go Pro Karma. But just in two years, it proved to be a futile decision and company had to shut it down.

In, 2006, DJI was launched in Shenzhen, China. And in less than a decade, the company became the world leader in industrial and citizen drones or UAV’s (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) accounting to over 70% of the drone market. On 15 May 2019, DJI did what Go Pro did with the launch of quad copter, that is entry in a product line that is not its specialty, which was the launch of its fiction camera, DJI Osmo Action.

DJI Osmo Action is a direct competitor to Go Pro Hero 7, which is Go Pro’s latest action camera. But will DJI Osmo Action fail as Go Pro Karma, which was Go Pro’s drone in direct competition to DJI’s drones? Only time will tell, but let’s make a comparison of both the products.

Go Pro Hero 7 comes in 3 versions: Hero7 White, Hero7 Silver, and Hero7 Black. We’ll make comparison with Hero7 which has almost similar specs as Osmo Action.

DJI has loyal following in drones, while Go Pro has loyal following in Action Cameras. DJI Osmo action is definitely a competitor to Hero7. In areas such as wireless connectivity and smartphone app, Go Pro takes the lead. But in some areas, it takes the lead, for example, shooting 4K/60 without a fisheye look (or with, if you really want).
